Three suspects arrested in standoff at Second Amendment Sports

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Sheriff's Office says it has arrested three suspects after an armed robbery at Second Amendment Sports on Mohawk Street and Rosedale Highway Sunday morning.

An audible burglary alarm around 3:30 a.m. alerted law enforcement, and deputies were dispatched immediately.

When deputies arrived, they found visible damage to the store's back door and heard the suspects moving inside.

One suspect, 18-year-old Felipe Rodriguez, attempted to leave and resisted arrest, but was then subdued and arrested with the help of a K9 partner.

Authorities called in a S.W.A.T. team and crisis negotiators when they saw the remaining two suspects on the store surveillance footage loading guns.

After refusing to follow instructions given by law enforcement, authorities say they deployed a chemical agent into the ceiling area where the suspects were hiding.

"After several hours of attempted negotiations, the SWAT team deployed a small amount of tear gas," Sergeant Stephen Wells said.

One suspect, a minor, fell through the ceiling and was taken into custody.

The third suspect, 19-year-old Jonathon Eddington, then walked to the back of the store and surrendered to deputies.

Eddington and Rodriguez were booked into the Central Receiving Facility on charges including burglary, possession of stolen property and participation in a street gang.

The minor suspect was taken to Juvenile Hall.

All stolen property has been recovered and deputies say there are no more suspects.
